New Jersey Democrats declare civil war

Post by Abdul Alhazred » Sat Feb 02, 2019 11:56 pm

N.J. Democrats threaten to toss Trump from the 2020 ballot if he doesn’t release his tax returns
Newark Star Ledger
Democratic state lawmakers in New Jersey aren’t done seeking President Donald Trump’s tax returns.

Some members of the state Legislature have revived legislation that would require candidates for president and vice president to disclose their tax returns from the previous five years to appear on the ballot in the Garden State.

The bill would also ban New Jersey’s voters in the electoral college from voting for a candidate that did not do so.

...
If Trump is bumped off the ballot in any state on whatever pretext, the shooting will immediately start.

I don't know Abdul. NJ is a fairly 'libril' state. How did Trump do last time?
The 2016 United States presidential election in New Jersey was won by Hillary Clinton on November 8, 2016, with 55.5% of the vote over Donald Trump's 41.35%. New Jersey's 14 electoral votes were assigned to Clinton and her Vice-presidential running mate Tim Kaine.

I mean arguably if there were such a rule it would be fair as long as it applies to all candidates equally.

No state has the authority to change the requirement for electors for the president.

Thought they could direct proportional votes among the electors. Not sure you are correct amigo.

Please explain what you mean by that, keeping in mind Article II, Section 1, Clause 2 of the US Constitution.

Thanks.

Yea, I'm kinda thinking this is unconstitutional. Let's ask that dead lady.

Here is the clause that xouper refers to:
Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

You all misunderstood my statement .They can apportion as they please.

But they cannot create new requirements for a presidential candidate (such as must reveal tax returns). Only a constitutional amendment can do that.

Your clarification (in blue) makes more sense.

Perhaps the reason we misunderstood is because your clarification (in blue) in not even close to having the same meaning as your original statement (in yellow). An elector is not the same as a candidate.
