Hosting stuff

Post by ed »

Suppose I wanted to host a bunch of articles and photos. How would I go about it? There'd have to be some sort of organization tree or something, right?

Probably talking about <1 tera, at least for the foreseeable future. All pdf's and jpeg's.

Put another way "I have a bunch of documents, how do I make them available?"

Truly public or members only? If you want to make them truly public, Deviant Art is the way to go. 8)

Or do you want a site that's safe for work and suitable for children? :BigGrin3:

Upload to Box and send people the link.

Dunno, thought of that when I posted the post I posted here.

This is the place that is doing it
https://ordnancesociety.org.uk/about-us/
I'm a member <shock!!!> and offered my fairly large pdf collection for them to host. I think I suggested it ages ago and they started doing something and they asked me what my thoughts were. I figured you lot would make me look smart so I could show off.

It seems that they have the storage for them to host on their own site but the organization is going to be a prob when the number of articles gets large.

SharePoint or Alfresco might be options.

I'd like something that just lets people access the files without anything local (unless they dowload)

Host it from your computer on any (or many) torrent site. As long as your computer client is seeding, others can download at your max upload speed + the the sum of the upload speeds of anyone else that happens to be downloading at that time.

Additionally, I'm sure there are dozens of download sites willing to host your files for a tiny fee. Pixie would certainly allow FTP from his servers if you ask nice.
