I remember the day that Ted Danson's stunt hit the news. I was at my high school girlfriend's house, sitting uncomfortably next to her father while waiting for her to get ready for our date. He said, "I don't care for this Danson fella."

Because of the blackface thing?

"No, cause he's a nigger lover."

Thankfully, the gf came out of the bathroom just then and we got the hell out of there. That was the day I learned that her dad was a bonafide racist, and the only time I heard a racist say those words outside of a television documentary from the 1950s.
Such potential!

Shirkers on Netflix.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe

Don't.

I can sum up the whole movie in one sentence.

Haven't seen any of it yet, but reviews seem to be more positive than for season 2. That may be damning with faint praise though.

Supposedly they learned the lesson from season 2 and this time is more like season 1 was.

It's better than season 2 but not as good as season 1.

At least so far.

I was able to get through episode one. Not horrible but not a page turner either.

Blood

An Irish story--so you know it has a happy ending--about the death of a Mum--see what I did not do there--and an estranged daughter who returns and suspects foul play. Interesting in that everything is clearly not what it seems. Still, I would not recommend it save for the final episode that pulls together what actually happened and examined--this is not a spoiler--the tragedy of being of "sound mind" but not of "sound body," knowing you are dying. How your family deals with you, and you know what they are dealing with.

In fact, the last episode could stand alone regarding this tragedy. Especially when "you" want to help your family deal with the mundane issues of life after you are gone.

True Detective Season 3: the apology for Season 2

Good so far. Enjoyed the first two episodes.

It's not season 1, but that's trying to capture lightning in a bottle.

They handle the race issues really well. They acknowledge but do more with non-verbal expressions than a preachy rant would do.

I think the show has acknowledged it several times: When Wayne and Amelia speak alone in the classroom; When Wayne and Roland have a conversation in the car; and of course the glance Wayne gives his son after the "intersectionality" comment.

My personal criticism is that it's a little overwritten, overshot, and overdramatized in the first episode.

They acknowledge it, but don't hamfist it. The conversations strike me as very likely versus what we normally get.

They needed a stronger narrative hook for sure.

I agree. I like the way they've handled it so far and it seemed authentic.

Star Trek Discovery Season 2, episode 1

Way less bad than Season 1.

Kid spock looks like Dolphin Boy from Sealab 2021 with a horrible wig on.

There were two ham fisted SJW moments, but I was happy with the portrayal of Pike at least.

It's getting better.

Someone please stop whoever is in charge of technology visuals. What's with the turbolifts zooming through tubes in spacious chambers? Are starships hollow?

Also, less asteroidy pod racing with Bat Shark Repellant Mini Shuttles.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Anyone watching The Punisher?

Guilty pleasure. Also saw John Wick 2 the other day.

The plot is almost irrelevant for either of them. Just something to move it from one fight scene to the next.

It's on Netflix here. If you saw the first one and liked it, you'll probably like this one too.

It's great, could have used 5 less episodes of emo Jigsaw.
