Well I tried a pick with my right hand but I was generally more comfortable just strumming and picking with my fingers. I'm sure those too will develop calluses if you use them the way she does.

The kinda annoying thing about the video is all the exhortations to "like" and "subscribe" but the music itself and the instrument is pretty cool.

I see no such exhortations. You need a better ad blocker. I recommend noscript.

Dude, they're in the video itself. Can't be blocked without blocking the whole video.

Saw this movie on Netflix today:

I would recommend it if you didn't see it already. It's got a nice soundtrack.

Julianna Barwick

Her thing is that she introduces playback of her own voice and overlays herself in real time. Definitely creates a mood.

Her process was imitated by Anna Kendrick's character in "Pitch Perfect 3":

"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"
