Bright

Caught it on Netflix. Anyone else seen it?

My comments:

It was interesting--I especially liked the beginning where it blended typical orc and elf tropes into socioeconomic classes. The orcs were in ghettoes, the elves in exclusive wealthy and beautiful homes in a restricted section of the metropolis. However, after such an interesting set up, I thought it basically turned into a C+ fantasy/urban fusion action film. Hellboy 2 was better.

A little more world building and exploring the implications of the racial stratifying would have significantly improved the movie.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

I didn't like the overarching lessons it was trying to teach but it was otherwise a decent flick.

It was okay. I didn't think it was the complete disaster that all the reviews said it was, but it didn't wow me either. So a rating of "C" sounds about right.

If I had seen it in the theater, I wouldn't feel like I wasted $10. But it would almost definitely be one of those movies I had mostly forgotten about by the time I got home.

I very much agree.

Like the others, it was OK but very forgettable.

Liked it, except I could have done without Will Smith. Might as well have called it Bad Boys III.
