Peaky Blinders

Post by Anaxagoras »

Anyone else watching this?

It's pretty fucking good.

Is Shelby an English name or an Irish name? I would think English, but I can't be sure.

"Peaky Blinders"

British sexual slang? :notsure:

No, not a sexual thing, but if you watch it you will see what it means. It's shown, not exposition.

Watched a couple of episodes, guess I can take it or leave it.
The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

I think it takes a few episodes to get up a full head of steam but it's pretty interesting by around the 4th episode or so. I just watched the 5th last night.

I don't know how historically accurate it is but the show is phenomenal. At the start of season 4, I thought they were about to jump the shark but they pulled it off well. Like BB, there's a bit of foreshadowing so you know in season one they were at least anticipating season three.

It is the ultimate binge show, btw.

Yeah, I watched another 5 episodes yesterday. Halfway through season 2. There's only 6 episodes per season, BTW.

Tom Hardy needs to win a few awards of some kind for his betrayal of Alfie Solomons

As far as "historical accuracy" goes, it's fiction.

The Whites were defeated before the end of WWI. It's why Russia was out of the war before it ended. In this alternate timeline, they are still fighting the Reds.

In the latest season, the Hardy/Brody scene was legendary.

I will admit that he is a striking looking guy, reminds me of Yul Brynner with that vaguely slavic look.

And yes, Anex, you are a homo.

am watching this thing and I like it. It owes a bit (a lot?) to Deadwood.

Some points/questions
Spoiler:
The commie husband of the sister, murdered by someone in the employ of the Sam Neill character (who did not die nearly badly enough). You catch that reference?

Why did Tommy kill that guy that the chick in the slaughter house told him to kill?

I don't remember. You mean the commie? Sometimes there's some misdirection, and to say much more would be a spoiler. One of my few peeves about the show.

I was wrong about the Russian civil war too. It continued until 1922 or even 23, after world war 1 had been over for a few years. So, that explains why there were still some "White Russians" at the time, hoping to somehow defeat the Bolsheviks and return to power.

You may recall that a White Russian kicked off Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. They were around for a long time, thinking that they would eventually return.

Sorta like Hillary supporters.

Did you see the spoiler? Why did he do that?
