The Cloverfield Paradox

Post by Nyarlathotep »

Apparently, on Sunday JJ Abrams dropped the third Cloverfield movie straight onto Netflix, entirely by surprise. Kind of a neat stunt but it couldn't save it from being kind of dull. It didn't do anything that Event Horizon didn't do 100x better other than link the first two Cloverfield movies (and presumably any future movies) together.

But that wasn't the most disappointing part. The most disappointing part was that it starred the guy that played Roy in The I.T. Crowd, playing a technician sort and at no point did he ever suggest turning anything off and then back on again. What a rip off.

Nor, I imagine, did he talk about that ludicrous display last night.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Nor did he give any of his crewmates a black box with a flashing red light on top and convince them that it was "The Internet".

I think it could only have been improved by dumping the rest of the cast and getting the people who played Moss, Jen, Richmond, Douglas, etc but keeping the same plot while making it The I.T. Crowd....IN SPAAAAAACE. Because seeing Moss deal with the weird events happening on the space station would at least have been funny.

Someone else suggested they could have at least have him have to punch in a pass code of some sort; 0118, 999, 881, 999, 119, 725…3

My favorite one was the one where they gave Jen the black box and told her it was "The Internet"

One of the clients I have to deal with a lot at work is named Jen, and I have to refrain from saying "WHO GAVE JEN THE INTERNET!!!" every time I talk to her.

BUt I do agree the Italian Interpreter was right up there too.

That one cracked me up too. There was just something about the way he would say "I'm Disabled" that was funny as hell

If you like The I.T. Crowd, you might also want to check out Black Books, also (partially) a Grant Linehan creation. Same style of humor largely and incredibly funny

Indeed! Black Books is why I checked out IT Crowd in the first place.

Remember Roy said that the play sucked because there wasn;t any siong that was memorable and that you could sing.

When he ends up in the short bus going to god knows where, the guys in the bus break into "Willies, willies, I love willies"

Jesus that was funny ..

Ohohohohoh

Wishy thinking...

Sorry for the hijack but I loved that series.

No, no. We have to get this back to Big Ben straight away

No problem at all, I could happily talk about The It Crowd and Black Books (and yet another Grant Linehan creation, Father Ted) all day long.

ok ok

The guy that played Reynholm jr starred in a series called Toast of London. Some funny bits but not IT Crowd quality.

Anyway ... my daughter is a horror on the miniature golf course. She is a great kid (young woman actually) but it is like she looses it, accuses people of cheating (!!?!!) moving too slow, moving too fast etc etc. It is funny because it is so out of character. Laughing at her, naturally, makes it far far worse.

Anyway, there was this scene in Toast of London that WAS Melanie. I pirated the episode and cut the scene out. Here is my daughter playing miniature golf.

Personally, I feel a little bit for Roy. You don't know how often I really DO tell people some variant of "Turn it off and turn it back on again" (or its closely related cousin "Log out and log back in again")

That was a show where the sum was far greater than the individual actors. Though Jen was pretty damn funny. Remember her "Stevie Nicks" phase?
