The Aquaman Thread

Post by gnome » Wed Dec 26, 2018 1:08 am

Just saw it tonight. My review: not bad, not great. Worth a few hours but unlikely to be long remembered.

Visually, stunning. No complaints there. Lots to look at.

Story wise--all I can say it's that it's very straightforward hero-telling. They avoid the mistake of making the origin story take up half the movie, so points for that. But the storyline just ambles on from A to B to C to D and even the surprises are not very surprising.

Just the same, I did enjoy it so I'm not really dissing it.

Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Oh and the Hollywood Atlas is very much in effect.

The final battle scene made it a better Star Wars movie than most actual Star Wars movies, despite the fact that it did not take place in the stars.

I liked it a lot, actually. It was like a soggier, fishier Game of Thrones. I am hoping Black Manta has a bigger role in Aquaman 2, because they did a top notch job with him. He actually came across as dangerous and not just a mid-level boss for the Hero to throw aside so they could open the second act o the film with a fight scene.
