↑ I've heard the Ensemble 415 in concert. They even played some contemporary music, composer being present. Much more bearable when live and on "period" instruments!

Just dug up something I meant for this thread.

I loved this atmospheric piece as soon as I heard it. It has a quietly triumphant mood to me. Hope has blossomed into reality. Catastrophe has been averted. Liu Kang beat Shang Tsung. Just this once, everybody lives.

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

Katy Perry copied Dark Horse from Christian rapper Flame, court rules

Katy gave evidence in the week-long trial, denying she had ever heard the 2009 song Joyful Noise by Flame before recording her track.

She even offered to perform Dark Horse for the court room when her lawyers were unable to play the song for jurors because of a broken speaker system.

But despite the joke, the jury ruled against Katy on Monday.

During the trial, Katy's team described the beat of both songs as "commonplace", arguing that because of that, Flame (real name Marcus Tyrone Gray) could not claim copyright.

"They're trying to own basic building blocks of music, the alphabet of music that should be available to everyone," said Katy's lawyer Christine Lepera during her closing arguments in court last week.

But lawyers representing Flame claimed that Katy and her team had "copied an important part" of his song, at the conclusion of legal proceedings that started in 2014.

"They're trying to shove Mr Gray into some gospel music alleyway that no one ever visits," This is a bad thing? said Gray's lawyer Michael A. Kahn.

He also mentioned the fact that Katy started her career as a Christian artist.

Despite the trial focusing on the production of the song - it was produced by Dr Luke, Max Martin and Cirkut - the court found that the six songwriters of Dark Horse were also liable. It required six songwriters? Really?

Huh. I watched the video before reading the spoiler and I thought that the big controversy would be "Cultural Appropriations!!!" not Kopjireight Appropriations.

As a purist, I of course prefer the Egyptian Original

Leading up to a song that sets a mood for me now. Through the years I'd stayed in touch with my first girlfriend, even after separating. She'd always struggled with depression but generally made her life work. A few years ago we were speaking and she expressed having particular difficulty coping--even when she got relief from depression, she was so unused to accepting any kind of happiness or Good Things(tm) into her life that it was stressful for her on those rare occasions. I shared this song with her, something that speaks to a person even finding happiness traumatic. There wasn't a lot I could do directly since she was living in California.

A year or so later, I was contacted by her ex-husband and found out that she had passed away from a likely suicide. So now the song has even more impact for me than ever before.

The same band has another one that connects with me and creates a mood, though not for any personal reason.

Although I gave it up a long time ago, when I was in high school I learned to play on a steel-stringed guitar. It hurts at first but you develop calluses over time.

↑ On the right hand too, or did you use a plectrum/mediator?

On the lute you pick the strings without fingernails and you want your fingertips as smooth and soft as possible (notice also the peculiar Renaissance "thumb under" technique):
