Godzill-meh

Post by Nyarlathotep »

The new one sucked. This is sad because I LOVE me some Kaiju and hate to see a bad one

The plot was nonsense (even for a movie with a giant fire breathing lizard) and the writers seemed to have gone to a clearance sale for cliches. They also seemed to think “you know what would make a Godzilla Movie better? Almost no Godzilla!”, which is wrong.

There were a couple of cool monster fights, but that didn’t make up for the suck fest of the rest of the film.

I was doubly disappointed because I was really excited to see modern takes on Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah.

But they got put into such a bad, bad film

Sucks.
I recall when one of my faves of all time, The Haunting, was being remaide with Liam Whoosieface and I was really looking forward to it. Sucked. Hobo balls.

All I could think of was "didnt someone monitor this crap?"

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

From the time when I still went sometimes to the movies, I remember how bad Herzog's remake of Nosferatu was.

It was bad, but I want the clock that he had.

Ok. Pirated the damn thing. Price was right.

Largely incoherent. Monsters cool but lack of light is often an excuse for crappy effects. Watching now. Bored. Wife asleep. Hungry.

Really big monsters not necessarily better.

"So her and Godzilla have a thing going on?" Sez token black guy randomly dropped into a scene.

Not so bad you want to harm yourself but not all that good either.
eta: just checked time remaining ... 45min. Hell with that, time for a book.

Sometimes creators step into a franchise to really add a memorable installment, possibly influencing future versions.

Sometimes they're just squeezing a few (million) bucks from a guaranteed opening weekend.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Yeah. I seem to recall reading somewhere that every movie now makes a profit with theaters, DVD, cable distribution etc etc.

But it still amazes me that obvious dreck gets released when a script doctor or better editing could make it better, not great but better. I assume that they have run the numbers and that what they do makes sense financially but still... I think of the Haunting and Hobo Balls and am saddened.
