Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was kind of disappointing. The last 45 minutes or so were pretty good. The two hours leading up to that point...not so much. Nothing much happened (until the aforementioned last 45 minutes) except for Leonardo DeCaprio moping around and Brad Pitt just sort of existing. Usually, a movie will spend time like that developing interesting characters but the characters in question were just not that interesting. You could have removed Leonardo DeCaprio from the film almost entirely and it wouldn't have changed a damned thing. You could have glued googly eyes to a plank of wood, waved it around and replaced Brad Pitt through most of the film. They were just boring
I think the worst part was that I saw a perfect example of what it means when a critic calls a movie "self-indulgent". Most of the movie was little more than an excuse for Tarantino to throw out references and clips of old movies, TV shows, and commercials and his well-documented foot fetish. I enjoy that sort of thing (well, not so much the feet thing), but I kind of want a little more from a movie than that.
I give the movie 2 out of 5, but only because I have always liked Tarantino and am feeling generous.
Tarantino, you disappoint me so...

Tarantino needs someone above him to periodically smack him with a newspaper.
He has not made a good movie since, well, Pulp Fiction.

Jackie Brown only watchable for Samuel L. Jackson. The rest . . . meh. Sort of the way people say the first Batman film was the "best" when they really liked watching Jack Play Jack.
Django made "wire-fu" seem realistic. That stuff starts to bother me.
Inglorious is good only for its opening. Then Tyler Durden shows up, and it all goes to shit. Not only self-indulgent, it has Stupid Plots. As in everyone engages in Stupid Plots.
Do not get me started on Kill Bill. . . .

Yeah, one good movie.
If you wanna go back before Pulp fiction, there was a movie that made me ill.
The "stuck in the middle with you" movie. Reservoir dogs I think?

In as much as movies are escapism, he does a reasonable job with the likes of 'Pulp Fiction' and the 'Kill Bill' nonsense.
But I'd much rather see something like 'Hospital' with George C.
