Moneyball

Post by Anaxagoras »

Apparently Billy Beane can still play it.

On opening day, Oakland had the 26th (out of 30) highest payroll in the major leagues. Less than one third of the second-highest payroll in the majors. Only about 75% of the median payroll. They currently lead their division by 3 games and are tied for the best record in the AL.

Somehow he continues to find ways to do more with less.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Dodgers had the 2nd highest payroll on opening day, (more than triple the A's) and they are last in their division.

The two teams with the smallest payrolls also have the two worst records so far, as one might expect.

The Dodgers took on most of the Red Sox' most expensive problems from the last few years. I think that explains why both the Dodgers and the Red Sox are now in the positions they are in.

Basically they got suckered. It didn't even get them to the playoffs that year. The Yankee should try to trade A-Rod to them. It doesn't matter what they get in return.

The standard of any Family Movie--does it make them shut up?

There is a Mr. Boffo cartoon which shows a silently shocked family staring at the television with the caption: "Another Family Discovers Blue Velvet is Not the Sequel to National Velvet"
