I like pro and college versions of this sport and I can not care less about any of this.

I don't know why so many people like to watch this either, but I'm guessing they are the same people who like "reality TV".

For the network and the NFL, if the ratings justify it, it seems like a no-brainer. The draft is going to happen anyway and if there's an audience out there who wants to watch it then the marginal cost of making a TV product out of it is probably minimal, compared to other sorts of content they could be producing.
