The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

OMFG. I didn't need to see that. My house was built on the edge of a man made hill. The builders described how the built the hill and stabilized it before building the house, but I worry about it sliding down the hill every time it rains.

  • Never "on the lens" but on a clear filter (UV);
  • A nylon stocking over the lens works nicely too, which is less messy;
  • Obsolete nowadays with Photoshop;
  • Judging from the light distribution I'd say it's largely genuine (Polish) mist.

Here I bow to your expertise. And I presume having the stuff at hand could prove convenient in the context…

Polish mist instead of Vaseline? Sounds messy either way.

Burn the bodies for heat and then redecorate. :) The lack of natural light might be a bitch however.

It's just a matter of time 'till a rainbow hits that house dead center then boom you'll be cleaning up Skittles for weeks.

Better. At least there's no lawn to worry about.....just landslides, floods, and an occasional falling tree cleaving the house in two....
