Title: That Firebrand

Charles Howard Johnson

Post by ed »

I have an interest in arcane things. I believe, upon reflection, that it stems from insecurity, that I need to look smart and having odd bits of knowledge lets me lord it over lesser mortals. That and I am lazy. I was a fabulous manager because I hired really good people whom I left alone. I stuck my nose in only when I was needed. Why? Because I am a lazy brute.

Anyway ... I bought this at the Elephant's Trunk Flea Market in New Milford, CT.

It appealed to me. The guy had skill and was more than a technician. You can read a bit about him here

I actually created the entry and used my picture for illustration.

Why am I intruding upon your time? Good question. Remember Guy Empey? The author and producer and actor and soldier? He, too, has massively famous in his day. Mr. Johnson is similar.

His story can be told quickly. Her came to NY and scintillated in the art scene. He illustrated everything. All the rags of the time. Books. He was feted and written up in artsy fartsy journals.

He died at 28 leaving a daughter.

Bang, gone.

Now you know too.
