For the sake of discussion, Bob is completely innocent, and unaware of anything related to the following conversation. It involves an accusation by Bill against Bob.
Bill: Bob killed the accountant and stole a million dollars from the company!
Bob: I did not! Are you crazy?
This is the wrong way to respond. It dignifies the blatant lie and also opens the door for Bill to talk some more. This in not the correct approach.
The correct way to respond might be
Bill: Bob killed the accountant and stole a million dollars from the company!
Bob: You are a goddamn liar, and if you try that shit on me I will fucking bury you. Also I will kill your entire family, including your fucking dog. Don't say a fucking word because I know you heard me asshole.
This approach puts Bill on notice that his tomfoolery will not be tolerated, and also that he will die if he persists.

Re: The correct way to respond
Then there is another scenario, in which no response at all is the best response
Most members of this esteemed virtual boys club know this well
Except Shemp, but he’s an idiot so I still love him

Re: The correct way to respond
I have no idea what that was about. I would bet the author no longer does either.
