Re: Vertigo
I understand the thrill of doing something crazy. I've been skydiving. What I don't get . . . is doing it without a "safety net".

Re: Vertigo
I've noticed where the rope and piton has been rather poorly 'shopped out. It is shown in a higher resolution image at this site with an interview of the climber, about that specific climb.

He's done a number of unbelievable free solos.
In fact, there's a story about Honnold on one of the big climbs (not sure if it was El Cap) and forgot his chalk. So he borrowed some from other roped-in climbers halfway up.*
Here's some video tailor made for this thread:
* How'd you like to be one of the guys sweating his ass off on El Cap, Half Dome, wherever, and some guy shows up without a fucking rope, asks to borrow some chalk, and then climbs away?
Ha! Ha!

Re: Vertigo
Nice video, Gramm. That's exactly the kind of thing that inspired me to become a pilot. And then when I got my license, I did a lot of flying in the Idaho mountains. Not quite as dramatic as that bird's experience, though.

Flight Instructor: "When you routinely and voluntarily reduce your margin-of-error to zero, as that guy in the video is doing, then don't complain when someday you accidentally but inevitably exceed that margin and get severe butt-hurt."
Awed Bystander: "Yeah, but he died doing what he loves."
Flight Instructor: "There are bold pilots and there are old pilots. But there are no old bold pilots."

Must have been a very still day. While my little pink ass stays firmly on the ground flying cellular kites. They do fold up to fit in yer mama's underwear drawer quite easily.

No one gets hurt but you may not have the nerve to watch the whole thing.

Re: Vertigo
So yeah I had that vertigo the other night in the comfort of my own home.
And yesterday at the doctor's office.
And later at the ER.
Where they did a CT scan of my head and found nothing.
I also passed all the "touch your nose, touch my finger" tests.

No idea. I assume if it is not specifically prohibited by law, then by default it is legal.
It is sponsored by Red Bull though.

Re: Vertigo
It . . . is . . . not a good movie, but it has some epically awesome scenes of cheese. The creators of The Venture Brothers found it a source of inspiration.
I believe the Japanese Original author Rod "Trevanian" Whitaker intended it as a spoof.
