The United States has no native monkeys, but the smallish vervets have roamed Dania Beach since the late 1940s after a dozen brought from West Africa fled a now long-closed breeding facility and roadside zoo. Today, 40 descendants are broken into four troops living within 1,500 acres (600 hectares) around the airport. Florida also has a few colonies of escaped macaques and squirrel monkeys.

"I've got a serious situation here. My pilot has gone incoherent. And I have no idea how to fly the airplane," said the man, according to recordings of the air traffic control call.
Thirty frantic minutes later — with the help of multiple air traffic controllers around West Palm Beach, Fla. — the plane and its passengers were safely on the ground in a remarkable and unusual emergency landing.
The passenger who made the landing has not been publicly identified. In the recordings, he says several times that he does not know how to operate the Cessna Caravan aircraft, although his conversations with controllers indicate some familiarity with technical aviation terms.

Giant snails that can grow up to the size of a rat have been reported in a town in Florida.
The invasive species, native to Africa, carry the parasite rat lungworm, known to cause meningitis in humans.
On June 23, 2022, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) confirmed the detection of the giant African land snail in the New Port Richey area of Pasco County.

22 Florida residents have been bitten by alligators this year, according to officials
By Andrew Mark Miller | Fox News
A Florida man who says he was attacked by an alligator is in good spirits despite losing an arm and finding himself stranded in a swamp for three days.
Eric Merda, 43, says he had just finished an irrigation job in July in Parrish Florida when he decided to stop at Lake Manatee Fish Camp to throw away trash which resulted in him getting lost in the woods, WTVT-TV reported.
Merda told the outlet that he spotted his truck across a body of water and jumped into the water figuring he could swim to his vehicle. Halfway across the lake, Merda says he encountered an alligator that grabbed his arm and snapped it as he tried to pull him under three times.

If you look at Lake Manatee Fish Camp on Google earth you will see why the story makes no sense and can’t possibly be true

DeSantis issues warning as Florida emerges from horrific storm: 'We're a Second Amendment state'
https://www.foxnews.com/us/florida-gov- ... rder-stateFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a stern warning to those trying to take advantage of the victims of Hurricane Ian.
DeSantis made the comments Friday during a news conference in Fort Myers, Florida. He said that while visiting nearby Punta Gorda, he saw a boarded-up business with a sign that read, "You loot, we shoot."
"We are a law and order state, and this is a law and order community," DeSantis said. "So do not think that you're going to take advantage of people who've suffered misery."
"Don't even think about looting," he said during another press conference later in the day.
Lets see how much looting occurs.

LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — Officials in one South Florida city said an iguana was to blame for a “large scale” power outage this week.
Lake Worth Beach Electric Utility crews responded to the outage on Wednesday afternoon.
The outage affected customers in the South East area of the company’s service territory.
The city called the outage “large scale” but didn’t immediately say how many customers were affected.
