Newest trend in superheros: vulgar and obscene. IOW, it's alright to say fuck.

Image
A former Special Forces operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers and adopts the alter ego Deadpool.

Director: Tim Miller
Writers: Rhett Reese (screenplay), Paul Wernick (screenplay)
Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano
Frankly, I'm pretty much Super Hero'd out but the trailer looks interesting. Here's a review snip from Wired:
Deadpool is a Marvel creation, but this sure isn’t a Disney property. Fox wants you to know it’s got all that R-rated goodness you’ve been craving in a superhero movie, brought to you by the always mouthy and always game Ryan “The Ultimate Body” Reynolds. Sex, guns, massive head wounds, nudity, blood spatter, Salt-N-Pepa, katanas, Gina Carano and more are all here for your viewing pleasure. Between this and Suicide Squad, 2016 is going to be the breakout year for hard living antiheroes. It’s about damn time.
Here's the trailer, faggots.

Here's the thing... if there's something a superhero movie shouldn't do, it belongs in a Deadpool movie almost by definition.

What gnome said.

Deadpool is a very...different superhero. A R rated superhero fits deadpool better than most. A square jawed, tousle haired defender of all that is good and pure he ain't.

Really, why would anyone want to remake one of the weaker of the Dirty Harry franchise?

Surely there is a Japanese Original?

Nice cameo by Colossus.

Anyway, in this movie Deadpool gets to be the smartass Spider-Man never was in his movies. Although I haven't seen the recent reboots so I dunno for sure.

Andrew Garfield was better in this regard than Tobey. but obviously a bit class salty than Deadpool will be. The problems with the reboot movies weren't really with Garfield's performance.

Yeah, saw it twice opening night...long story. But fun shit. Maybe a little too Family Guy in its humor, but quite good after all. The fight scenes were visceral and better than most.

I loved, loved LOVED this movie. Funny as hell and lots of action. It most assuredly was not one of those movies where the only good parts were in the trailer.

Ryan Reynolds can now be forgiven for Green Lantern

They had me at the opening credits.

I also particularly like all of the peppered in references to Green Lantern, his previous appearance as Deadpool in that awful Wolverine movie, and the continuity issues with the Fox films.

Stop reading this and go watch the movie. If you finished the last sentence you are stalling. Go.

I enjoyed it as well. I missed perhaps 75% of the humor because it was too fast and often subtle. Makes we want to rent it now. I rarely laugh out loud in theaters, but I couldn't help it with this one.

Was not impressed that several parents brought their 8,9,10 yr olds. Definitely NOT a movie for that age group. Way too graphic and sexually explicit. Someone actually yelled out "Hey, thanks for bringing your young kids" at the end of the film. Clearly not impressed. One the bright side, now those kids know how to masturbate and know what soft core porn looks like, long before they reach puberty. Wonder if they thanked their moms for bringing them and for not researching the film beforehand.

There were a few people that brought really young kids. Like 6 or 7. Yeah, they didn't stay long.

Had the same (type) parents with their kids in the theater for Watchman.

I don't care if parents bring their kids to an R rated movie. That's their call.

What I do mind is parents bringing their kids to an R rated movie and then complaining about the sex/violence/gore/whatever. The R rating should have been a big fucking clue that the movie was going to have R rated content.

We brought our 13 year old to the movie, and it was a bit more explicit than I would have liked, but this isn't the first time he's seen boobies in a movie, and the humor in the movie is the embodiment of a horny teenager. So, I knew what I was getting into, for the most part.

...and yeah, I enjoyed the fuck out of the movie, so did he.

I just had a thought: "Deadpool" is this decade's "Airplane!"

I mean, I was going to complain about the very basic superhero plot, but then I realized you need that foundation for the humor, because this movie is a comedy, first and foremost.

So you need a basic plot structure that hits all the key elements of a superhero movie - a plot the audience will recognize and be able to follow, then you fill in between with jokes. Much like "Airplane!" did with a disaster movie.

I think I read somewhere that the reason the "smart" parody died in favor of fart jokes and stereotype snark lines, is that the blockbusters now self-parody so effectively that a "smart" parody would be redundant.

Should have seen it coming with Batman Forever's "Holy Rusted Metal!" -- a clumsy first attempt at this very thing.

I was really hoping they would put in a Wolverine cameo after the credits, but that would make it a perfect film and who wants that.
