Stolen from Graphs thread.

Note that our low elevation lets us sorta duck when a hurricane comes so that it's force is hardly lessened after it passes over us.

Awesome.
<not so awesome for Louisiana, the eastern seaboard and Bermuda but ... hey you gotta look out for number one, right?>

hmmmm ... puts the gulf about 10 minutes closer. Works for me.

Also, consider the release of those thousands of boas, pythons and gators when the Everglades flood and Okeechobee is breached.

Before I share this let me reassure you all that I am all right. Peachy in fact. Now the frightening story...

Yes a sink hole. Created by Trumps indifference to Trans people.

Fortunately my home is ~10 miles away so I was safe at all times.

Only 10 miles away? So it's just a small Floridian sinkhole.

Little rain, no wind to speak of, overcast most of the day.

Nuttin.

We are about 14 miles due west of Sarasota so we are pretty well inland (though it is flat).

Thanks for asking.

An unexploded World War II-era rocket was found displayed in a garden in an Orchid Island neighborhood Thursday morning, prompting the Air Force to respond and dispose of the item.

Army Corps of Engineers contractors working in the area about 10 a.m. stumbled across a barrage rocket and the nonexplosive tail of another rocket, according to senior unexploded ordnance supervisor Greg Peterson.

Peterson said the fuse was gone from the approximately 2-foot-long rocket, but that doesn't guarantee it's not dangerous.

"We don't know, so we assume it's explosively loaded," he said.

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

There were a number of bombing ranges near where I live, one probably 5 miles away or so. The flatness was ideal, I guess for training.

It is odd. There has been a movement to grant access rights to gators.

One day you will look on that sign the same way you look on "No Coloreds" signs, a throwback to a less enlightened past.

Oh, btw, I was driving down the main drag to Sarasota yesterday and I saw out of my window an ~8 foot gator in a drainage ditch. Big nasty fucker. No pic though.

Also ... as part of the Sarasota Gay/Transgender/Bi/Queer/cis/sissy/homo/straight/crooked outreach, a number of new bars have opened. This is the latest

Still love that movie.

Watched "Sometimes A Great Notion" lately?

"Never give a goddamned inch."
"Fer a kid almost got himself killed, he still has a sense of humor."

Rumor has it that Newman was mightily drunk throughout the filming. I like my scotch, but can't imagine that.

Step inside the tiny Florida town that's known as the 'psychic capital of the world'
Hollis Johnson Jul. 14, 2015, 5:25 PM

Psychic medium Victor Vogenitz has been holding seances since he was 16. Christiaan Lopez-Miro
At first glance, the tiny community of Cassadaga is nothing out of the ordinary. Nestled in in the heart of central Florida and surrounded by lakes and forest, the sleepy town may not seem like much — but there's something quite peculiar about it.
This town is known as the "Psychic Capital of the World."

Of the village's roughly 100 inhabitants, over half are practicing psychic mediums.
