America’s Epidemic of Empty Churches
Three blocks from my Brooklyn apartment, a large brick structure stretches toward heaven. Tourists recognize it as a church—the building’s bell tower and stained-glass windows give it away—but worshippers haven’t gathered here in years.

The 19th-century building was once known as St. Vincent De Paul Church and housed a vibrant congregation for more than a century. But attendance dwindled and coffers ran dry by the early 2000s. Rain leaked through holes left by missing shingles, a tree sprouted in the bell tower, and the Brooklyn diocese decided to sell the building to developers. Today, the Spire Lofts boasts 40 luxury apartments, with one-bedroom units renting for as much as $4,812 per month. It takes serious cash to make God’s house your own, apparently.
Well this is a gentrifying area of New York City after all.

On the other hand I often hear about new "Mega Churches" which don't seem to have any trouble filling their pews. Interest in the old mainline Protestant churches seems to be slowly fading away, but at the same time the "true b'lievers" are flocking to the gaudy new "Mega Churches," which probably compounds the problems for the older ones that are losing their market share in a shrinking market.
A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool.

I’ve just heard from the FFRF that the City Attorney for Charleston, Illinois, to whom the FFRF wrote to about the unconstitutionality of their city-sponsored trip to the Ark Park and Creation Museum, has sent the following email. The city has bailed.
Thank you for your email below and letter attached dated December 3, 2018. The purpose of this email is to inform you that The Ark Encounter & Creation Museum trip has been cancelled. The trip has been removed from the City of Charleston’s website and online registration portal.

Pastor John Gray defends decision to buy wife Lamborghini for anniversary (ABC 7)
Pastor John Gray, who leads his own church in Greenville, South Carolina, and still preaches at Lakewood Church in Houston, is responding to people who criticized him for the lavish anniversary gift he gave to his wife for their eighth wedding anniversary on Dec.11.

In a video captured by R&B singer and actor Tyrese, Gray surprises his wife Aventer with a Lamborghini Urus. According to the Kelley Blue Book, the 2019 luxury SUV starts at $200,000.

Gray's wife screams when the vehicle is revealed as he is heard in the back saying, "You light my fire. Let this Lamborghini light your fire, baby!"

However, it appears that joy may have been lost in some of the comments from people who immediately questioned where the money came from to buy the vehicle, while others felt he was boasting.

Jehovah's Witnesses' double standards.

Way beyond "normal traditional" double standards.

Great quote.

Back in the real world, feminists are rewriting the Bible and creating new even stupider religions.

Putin's Voice wrote:Playboy model arrested for naked crucifix photoshoot at the Vatican

Playboy model Marisa Papen has been arrested for an unorthodox naked photoshoot inside the Vatican. The poses included her being tied to a cross and sitting naked on a stack of bibles at St Peter’s Square.

Photographs from the controversial shoot include ones of Papen dragging a large wooden crucifix across the street and ones of her tied to the cross.

“I’m right in the middle of putting on my pants when suddenly 2 Polizia cars drive rapidly towards us. Another 4 cops approach us running. Holding their batons firmly. ‘Passport please!!!!!’” Papen wrote on her blog.

A victim, huh?

Let's see her try the same trick in Mecca.

How'd she get paid for that one? I thought Playboy gave up the girlie pictures.
You can lead them to knowledge, but you can't make them think.

Those are all "moderate" Muslim regimes.

And Mecca is Mecca.

Let's pick on some non-Abrahamic types for a change. 8)

Protests in India after women defy ancient ban on visiting Hindu temple (Reuters)
KOCHI/NEW DELHI, Jan 2 (Reuters) - Two women defied a centuries-old ban on entering a Hindu temple in the Indian state of Kerala on Wednesday, sparking protests and calls for a strike by conservative Hindu groups outraged by their visit.

Police fired teargas and used water cannons to disperse a large crowd of protesters in the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram, television news channels showed.

There were protests in several other cities in the state, media reported.

India's Supreme Court in September ordered the lifting of the ban on women or girls of menstruating age from entering the Sabarimala temple, which draws millions of worshippers a year.

But the temple refused to abide by the ruling and subsequent attempts by women to visit it had been blocked by thousands of devotees.

...
Can't they just let them sit in back the way civilized religions do? :BigGrin3:
