The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

There was a place called Radio Row in downtown NYC (Cortland St?) all sorts of surplus crap. The entire functionality of which is contained 1000 times over in my phone.

Maybe old Abdul will remember this.

"Officer" Joe Bolton was a guy on WPIX in NYC who got tapped to intro the Stooges (and then some horrid Dick Tracy cartoons when he was too old and feeble to protest too much). Anyway, "Officer" Joe was a gun collector and would bring in guns to show the kids watching :o
Old Six Shooters mostly as I recall.

Radio Row was still going strong in the 1960s.

Indeed. I loved Officer Joe.

There also another afternoon kid show showing old short subjects.

I think we've been over this before.

Laurel, Hardy, and Chuck. McCann that is. 8)

Yes, that is where you obtain(ed) the "technology" to keep yourWin95 connection to the interwebs going as I recall. They also have specials on DOS games on occasion.

About the 1960s being a foreign country. The kid shows (short subjects and theatrical cartoons) tended to be from that other foreign country, the 1940s.

Remember the Stooges short where Moe is the dictator of the "Nasties", Larry the propaganda minister, and Curly the head of the air force?

Sure there were some up to date kid shows from Hanna-Barbera and some others, but mostly it was old stuff, including an occasional pre-Hays code cartoon.

I distinctly recall a Popeye cartoon where Olive Oyl lives in a furnished room over a bar.

That would have been the 1990s even.

Wouldn't surprise me if there are still a one or two old stores on that part of Canal, though most of them are now gay bars.

If you've got Verizon, your 'phone' can't receive FM broadcasts. They disabled the tuner so you'd burn more data minutes.

Dipshit.

Why the hell would you need an FM receiver on a modern phone anyway?

Perfectly simple: So you don't have to waste data minutes streaming the same fucking radio station. Assuming you're lame enough to actually listen to commercial broadcasting.

Maybe this belongs in the art thread, but Piet Mondrian was one of the great artists of the early 20th century,

Changed the way we look at things, but not in an icky way like Picasso. :coolspecs:

My phone is on Verizon fool. I can't get the tuner to open dipshit. Furthermore, no I don't listen to commercial FM radio. But, I do have to check on several signals occasionally because it's my fucking job. Asshole! :P BTW: The streaming signal is a totally different path than the terrestrial signal. In simpler terms: One can work while the other is fucked. They do not depend on each other.

Dipshit.

You could just root your phone and get it to work that way.

Probably a dedicated device would be superior for that.

I see your point, but IMO having an FM receiver on the phone to begin with seems pointless.
