Haven't really followed the NBA much this year, but it looks like the Lakers really suck and Boston doesn't have much to crow about either. Toronto and Golden State have the respective best records so far in the East and West. Not names I'm used to seeing at the top of the standings. The Knicks are just godawful. On an 8-game losing streak atm.

And as usual lately, the West appears to be the vastly superior conference.
Last year for example, Phoenix had a 48-34 record (.585) but missed the playoffs whereas Atlanta made the playoffs in the East on a 38-44 record (.463). That's a pretty stark difference.

While I am happy super stars continue to join Lakers, I genuinely don't understand why. If someone wants to play in LA Clippers are also in town and are no longer owned by a racist. New York also has 2 teams. Furthermore, LeBron has demonstrated that one can build a global brand playing in a smaller market like Cleveland.

Sure one can say Lakers are a storied franchise but it's not like they are the only one.

Anyways, Cleveland finally sucked enough to pick the Right Talent . . . but could give him nothing around him. When the guys who actually won his championships got old and/or retired, he moved on.

Having burned his bridge in Miami which has . . . nothing . . . where else would he go? He wants a "Hollywood" life after basketball to he moved to the Minnesota Fakers. Laughing all the way to the fucking bank.

Funny, I never "got" the hatred between fans in a city for different baseball teams. Sure, there is "history" and all of that, and then the whole silly "Dimaggio's Italian so . . . yay!" way of thinking, but there is not a lot of rationality in Sports Fandom.

So when the Black White Sox finally won, ironically breaking their "curse" right after the Red Sox, Cubs fans were inconsolable, just as White Sox fans were pissed that the Cubs finally won. I "get it" in the sense that this is all a stupid reflection of tribalism, but that is all that it is.

Sort of like no one will ever choke as eagerly and hard as Your Mom the 2004 Yankees.

With Durant's playing style the speed off that leg does not matter IMO -- and the game in the finals where he was injured back that up as well. Durant obviously won't have the same athleticism but that's never been part of his game. I think it's a fair gamble for a team like the Nets to take.
