Out fishing today and saw a manatee. I followed it a bit and it lead to another manatee. Got a bit on video, saw it a lot better in person thanks to polarized sunglasses. Water was only 4' or so deep.

I've been to Florida a few times. First was in the 50's "wow is it snowing?"
"Nope that's called sand."
Fast forward to 1999 Miami Kite contest ...a little hermit crab is blowing along the street( yes it's that windy) he/she spends the night in the hotel room with us and is released next day.

I got more, none involving large reptiles but first time shaving me privates...damn surfers.

The Orlando Sentinel wrote:Congressman Darren Soto's wife arrested at Walt Disney World

The wife of U.S. Rep. Darren Soto was arrested at Disney Springs on Sunday on a charge of disorderly intoxication.

Amanda Soto, 33, of Celebration, was with her mother at the West Side bus loop when Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Cory Heller saw her “holding … her mother by the straps of the backpack she was wearing in an attempt to keep her from walking away,” according to the arrest report.

A security guard later told Heller that Soto and her mother had become “aggressive” toward each other.

Heller, who said both Soto and her mother appeared intoxicated, helped them call an Uber vehicle to take them home but Soto began yelling profanities at Heller and the driver.

Soto was handcuffed and placed in a patrol car, where “she began banging [her] head against the window in what appeared to be an attempt to harm herself. Amanda was further restrained for her safety,” Heller stated.
[…]
“It should be noted that I attempted to calm Amanda numerous times from her agitated state and that even while attempting to speak with her she continued to utter that her husband is a congressman, therefore, she can do whatever she wants,” Heller stated in the report.

In a statement, Darren Soto said his wife has been treated for depression for years and recently stopped taking medication “in accordance with her treatment plan and under her doctor’s [supervision].’’

“Yesterday, she drank too much and reached an argumentative state with a family member, which led to arrest,’’ Soto said. “She deeply regrets her actions and takes full responsibility for them. Amanda and her physician will be reviewing her mental health treatment, immediately.’’

It looks to me like the path overlay got shifted to the right. The ship should be going through the Red Sea instead of the desert for example. I'll chalk that up to a computer glitch.

I’ve seen gator on the menu before, but never a whole alligator! Justin Wilbur, a cook at Clark's Fish Camp Seafood Restaurant, sent me this picture. I had so many questions! For $125 he told me this gator will feed 8-12 people. It’s tail and legs are wrapped in bacon and smoked for 5 to 6 hours rubbed down with a blend of season and bourbon whiskey. Would you eat this? The Times-Picayune wrote:Florida brewery unveils six-pack rings that feed sea turtles rather than kill them

You've probably seen the heart-wrenching photos of the damage plastic six-pack rings can do to marine life. They tangle the wings of sea birds, choke seals and warp the shells of growing sea turtles.

A Florida brewery has a solution: six-pack rings that that can either biodegrade or serve as a snack for wildlife. After years of research and development, the rings - made of wheat and barley - are now popping up in south Florida stores.

Saltwater Brewery, a craft microbrewery in Delray Beach, developed the rings with a startup called E6PR. Troubleshooting and manufacturing the rings was expensive. E6PR hopes other breweries - both small and large - will buy into the new rings and help bring costs down.

Plastic pollution is a big issue for the Gulf of Mexico. According to recent research by Louisiana State University, the Gulf has one of the world's highest concentrations of marine plastic. Each net or bottle dipped into the Gulf by LSU researchers came up laden with plastic.

Florida Didn't Run FBI Background Checks on Gun Buyers for a Year Because of a Forgotten Login

The state of Florida failed to conduct national background checks on tens of thousands of applicants looking to procure a concealed weapon permit for more than a year, and the reason is about as dumb as it gets: the person in charge of performing the checks forgot their login information.

An Office of Inspector General investigation obtained by the Tampa Bay Times showed that from February 2016 until March 2017, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services stopped using FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System—the primary database to make sure concealed carry applicants don’t have a checkered past in other states. No applications during that period underwent the required national background check.

The body of a Florida woman who went missing on Friday was found just hours after some of her remains were discovered inside an alligator, officials said on Saturday.

The woman, identified as Shizuka Matsuki, 47, of Plantation, Fla., was last seen walking her dogs near a lake in the Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park in Davie, about 25 miles north of Miami, on Friday morning, the Davie Police Department said.

A man saw her walking her dogs there, and then minutes later saw the dogs running loose, one of them injured, reported WPLG, a local ABC affiliate. He called the police.

The man “went to the area where he thought that they had been walking, and he immediately spotted an alligator,” said Detective Viviana Gallinal..
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/09/us/f ... icle-click
Citing anonymous sources, local news outlets reported that an arm was found inside the alligator.
And how many times did that arm carry an alligator bag.

Think on that one. Florida is a land of ironies.
Dogs are especially attractive to alligators

Far be it for anyone to call an unprovoked punch to the face "lucky." But for David Miller, a Florida gas station store's clerk, he's not above thinking that he is, at the least, fortunate.

...

In the video, the two men are seen in what escalates into a verbal altercation for about a minute. After Miller returned the alcohol to a cooler, he told the suspect to leave the store. The two continue arguing and the man "got directly in David's face and, without provocation, punched David, knocking him to the ground," police said.

The suspect, wearing patterned shorts, a black T-shirt, white socks, and a cap, fled from the Marathon store on foot and was seen walking south on Channelside Drive, according to police.

Miller staggered to his feet and sought medical attention because the sucker-punch was to the head.

"My God turns evil to good," Miller told Tampa's Fox 13 News. "Because of this, I got a CT scan in my head to make sure he didn't do any real damage. Because of that, they found a small, benign brain tumor that will get treated at an early stage. This could also turn out to be a good thing for him. He could get rehab because of this. He could change his life today because of this mistake," Miller told the station.
The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.
