Jeopardy! Who will replace Alex Trebek

Post by Rob Lister » Mon Sep 30, 2019 12:48 pm

So as most of you no doubt know, Alex won't be with us much longer. Jeopardy! happens to be the only game show I like; the only one I can still stomach. Not even Vanna White rushing on her walker to turn letters excites me anymore.
On March 6, 2019, Trebek announced that he had been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. In a prepared video announcement of the diagnosis, Trebek noted that his prognosis was poor but that he would aggressively fight the cancer

Then he went on chemo and got a little better. But last month ...
Trebek gave an update in which he said his belief that he was done with chemotherapy was premature and "overoptimistic", noting that his numbers "went south, dramatically and quickly"
So sadly, we need to stick a fork in him. Who do you think will replace him.

My bet would be Ryan Seacrest, but it might interfere with one of the 50 or so jobs he does now. And besides, to fill MENSA-member Alex's shoes, they have to pick somebody that is equally smart. Ryan isn't particularly intellectual.

Mayim Bialik would be a great pick. She's not so big a star or busy that she doesn't have time and she's got an IQ of around 160.

Another good pick would be James Woods; he has a reported IQ of about 180. But he would antagonize the fuck out of the produces, the contestants, and especially the audience. He is quite ruthless that way.

The show died years ago when they dumbed it down. Let it end with Alex.

I'll take "People who don't know what the fuck they're talking about for 500" Alex.

I sat with someone who won two shows in the 80s and watched his appearances. The answers were tougher then. I stopped watching 20 years ago because it got too easy for me.

Maybe you got smarter, wiser, better read. Trivia is a big part of the game.

In further news...
Less than a month after delivering the sobering news that he had to go back on chemo to treat his pancreatic cancer, Alex Trebek has given a hint that his time as the host of Jeopardy! may be coming to a close. "I will keep doing it as long as my skills do not diminish, and they have started to diminish," he told CTV News in an extensive interview that aired Friday. He says he has sores in his mouth from the chemo, which cause him to slur his words at times, and though the producers of the show say they don't notice yet, "When I feel that my skills have diminished to the point that I notice and am bothered by it," it may be time to say goodbye, he said. "There will come a point when they (fans and producers) will no longer be able to say, 'It’s OK.'"
