Aging Celebrity warning labels

Post by Bruce »

I can't take this shit anymore.

For example, I saw Shannon Doherty in the headlines today. Seriously, I haven't seen her since her 90210 days, so the image that appears in my head is
doherty-walsh.jpg
But when I scroll down.......WTF? Is that Shannon's grandma? No that can't be.....fuck, that's right, I'm old.

There should be a warning for middle aged people. Something like.....Warning, you haven't seen this celebrity for more than 20 years. Prepare to feel old and sad. In fact, go get a bucket of ice cream first.....

Remember Kathy Ireland?

I used to have posters on my wall. My kids have never even heard of her.

Brace yourself....

At least she's kind of trying, but that just makes it more sad.

Though recall Anax's story about His Mom ワイフ様 reacting to a modern depiction of the lead singer of Guns 'n Roses.

She used to have a crush on Axl Rose back in the 80's.

You know, when he looked like:

Then one day, I don't remember why, but there was a recent photo of him. She asked who it was. When I told her she was all like:

What he looks like now:

No one should search for Val Kilmer.

They seem to have aged pretty well, actually.

I think its a mid life thing. From age 0 to age 20, there were clear stages and milestones in life, and so many things were new, so my memories from those years are nearly packaged and organized, but from age 20 to age 45 there were far less milestones and new experiences. My memories over the past 25 years are all a blur. I remember things from college, grad school, each one of my jobs, and the entire lives of my kids, all as if those memories happened not all that long ago. It really fucks with my concept if the passage of time, and I hate it. It's like every damn thing makes me feel old. Everything. Just like today, I learned that Coldplay's first hit came out in 2000. That was 20 fucking years ago, and I don't even like Coldplay. Pretentious U2 wannabes. So then I realize that if Coldplay is 20 years old, then U2......yep, Bono is 59. FUCK! :x :x

Looking on the positive side, we're down to only two Beatles.

Nothing to do with age in itself, it's the difference between progress, which you can measure/feel in some way, and routine, by definition same old/same old. In your twenties you were working on your PhD and dating chicks (I suppose, even if your description seems to imply that the "blur" set in earlier), now you're a married man with a – crushing? boring? soul-destroying? repetitive? – job. (Which pays the bills, as Pyrrho would say.)
Find something you enjoy and keep at it. And that means don't grab for the remote or the game controller.

Shemp, you remind me of a time a heard a 100 year old man age shame a 80 year old man. If I make it to 80, I would love to be age shamed by a 100 yr old. Come on, pussy. When I was your age, I surgically installed my own colostomy bag. You kids are so spoiled.
