To be fair, I'm sure a lot of the team names that everyone is used to today sounded a little silly when they were first announced.

The Red Stockings? The Trolley Dodgers? The Giants? They only don't sound silly now because we are used to them.

Is it just a coincidence that the last 5 letters of "Guardians" are the same as "Indians"?

I'm sure it's no coincidence. One could argue that the word "indians" is still in the new name, if you kinda sorta look at it right...the letterforms are so similar that the "r" where it joins the "d" is much like the "n" and the one stroke of the "a" is much like the "i". Food for the conspiracy theorists. Me, I got no beef with the new name. Could have been something like "Outdians"...hey, wait! I got a ticket for this seat!

“Don’t forget the reason I brought it was because I was a seat banger. Like everybody else, you know, growing up in Cleveland in the old ballpark you grab the seat next to you and in unison you’d be banging the seat. I think, really, he annoys Cleveland fans as well, much like "Fireman Ed" embarrasses Jets fans – which is quite the achievement when you think about it – and everyone hates the little shits who start the wave in every stadium because we love the late 70s.

But we do not mention everyone joining in to sing a song about a pedophile in the 8th inning when your sworn blood-rival evil hate suck are kicking your ass by six runs.

“There cannot be two ‘Cleveland Guardians’ teams in Cleveland, and, to be blunt, Plaintiff was here first,” the roller derby team wrote in the lawsuit.

There used to be two teams in New York called the Giants. The baseball team moved to San Francisco, but the football team is still there.

(My guess is they're looking for a settlement. I'd probably do the same thing in their shoes.)
