Re: Thought Provoking Graphs
Yeah, that financial crisis thing is a bit dated.
It ended up costing little or nothing (or maybe even a small profit) because most of the bailouts were paid back and with interest too.
The worst case estimate, would have to have been an Armageddon scenario. That's like nobody paid any of it back.

Trends in meat consumption in the US:

Let's focus on the chickens.
Anyway, never mind all that, let's consider the chickens of the future. :D
In another 50 years, chickens will be the same size as a velociraptor (the real one, not the Jurassic Park ones: about 15 kg). In 100 years, maybe the size of an ostrich, and in 250 years, a T-Rex! :o

http://cdn3.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/DNvfbZM ... kens.0.jpgHere are three different breeds of chicken, raised on the exact same diet:
Same diet, 4 times heavier? Do they mean the same amount of food or only the same type of food? The left-hand chicken is a breed from 1957. The middle chicken is a breed from 1978. The right-hand one is a breed from 2005. They were all raised in the same manner for this paper and were photographed at the same age.

Re: Thought Provoking Graphs
Nonsense. We've just been increasingly kind to chickens, giving them free ranges and such.
Surprisingly, "the other white meat" campaign had no effect on the pork eating.
I'm very surprised be the steady decline in beef eating. Come on, people. It's what's for dinner. :(

I am still hearing from a lot of places that mathematics and critical thinking are un-lady-like, and a lot of potentially very smart women buy into it, especially claiming that women are naturally more gregarious than men and computer science demands work-alone maverick Asperger's cases. It's difficult to convey just how horribly wrongheaded this is.

Various projections of world population growth through 2050:

The Club of Rome one seems to be an outlier here, peaking around 8.2ish in 2040 and then starting to decline.

Well, seems Africa is busy limiting its trend, and sea level will take care of those nasty coastal areas. What?… :-PAnaxagoras wrote:

So central africa will be the scene of war, famine, revolutionary activity, death, sadness etc etc. We see it right now. Plenty of time to plan.
What should we do?
