SACRAMENTO —
An anti-vaccine activist was cited on suspicion of assault by the Sacramento Police Department on Wednesday after he livestreamed a physical confrontation with state Sen. Richard Pan, author of legislation to restrict vaccine exemptions.
Pan, a Democrat from Sacramento, was pushed from behind by Kenneth Austin Bennett, who challenged the senator in the 2018 primary but did not qualify for the general election. Bennett filed a recall petition against Pan this year alleging the senator was committing treason by authoring bills to tighten vaccination requirements in the state.
A video Bennett posted to Facebook shows he confronted Pan near the state Capitol and was livestreaming when he struck him. Afterward, Bennett said on the video that “I probably shouldn’t have done that.” The Sacramento Police Department said Bennett was cited for assault and released. The Times was unable to reach Bennett for comment.
Pan, who was not injured in the attack, was walking with Assemblyman Ash Kalra (D-San Jose) during the incident.
Bennett posted the video with the caption: “yes, I pushed Richard Pan for lying, laughing at us and for treason.” He added in the video that if Pan “Got what he deserved he would be hanged for treason for assaulting children, for misrepresenting the truth.”

https://www.businessinsider.com.au/meas ... 9-8?nojs=14 European countries just lost their measles elimination status, and the US could be next
Measles, quite possibly the most contagious virus on the planet, is back with a vengeance across Europe and North America.
- The measles are making a comeback in four European countries where the virus had been declared “eliminated.” Strains of the virus are now circulating yearround in the United Kingdom, Greece, Albania, and Czech Republic.
- Measles elimination is generally a good sign that a country has a high vaccination rate, because it means that no single measles strain is able to stick around in-country for more than a year.
- Measles is one of the most contagious viruses on the planet, and can spread in the air even after an infected person has left the room. 90% of unvaccinated people who are exposed will get it.
- The US eliminated measles in 2000, but come October that may not be the case anymore.
“We are backsliding, we are on the wrong track,” Dr. Kate O’Brien, Director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Department of Immunization, told reporters on Wednesday.
The United Kingdom, Greece, Albania, and the Czech Republic had all previously declared that the measles was eliminated, but not anymore. Each of those countries has seen specific measles strains circulating for more than a year now, which means measles can no longer be declared “eliminated” within their borders.
The fact that four formerly measles-free countries are regressing is another indication that an increasing number of babies and kids are going without their vaccines. Public health experts say that in order to prevent the spread of measles, roughly 93-95% of a population must be vaccinated.
[…]
There are lots of different reasons why these measles outbreaks are happening, but health experts say the backslide has a lot to do with vaccine hesitancy. O’Brien said many people in rich countries don’t “value” vaccines as much as they should.
“In some places we do see a complacency of parents, families, communities, and leaders to say these are diseases that we don’t see anymore, and this is not of high value,” she said. “It’s not worth spending time, energy, and potentially, you know, the discomfort of your child to get a vaccination.”
“We will continue to see an escalation of cases unless substantial and significant action is taken,” O’Brien said.

https://abcnews4.com/news/local/mumps-o ... charlestonMumps outbreak reported at College of Charleston
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - South Carolina health officials have declared a mumps outbreak at the College of Charleston after three individuals tested positive for the virus, college staff announced Monday, Sept. 23.
The South Carolina Dept. of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) confirmed the first case on Sept. 17, 2019, and have since confirmed two additional cases, a College of Charleston spokesperson said.
College staff have isolated the individuals who tested positive, and are now verifying student immunization records to identify and contact those who may be at higher risk of contracting the virus, CofC communications director Ron Menchaca said.
The College is partnering with the Medical University of South Carolina to conduct a vaccination clinic on campus this week to provide high-risk individuals with access to the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine.

Besides, it's a fact that people can't get sick in space. They can, however, get eaten by large insect like creatures first contacted on LV421. Just ask Sigourney Weaver. She's been there.

From April:
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl ... 87771.htmlTrump says anti-vaxxers 'have to get their shots' despite his repeated statements linking vaccinations to autism
Donald Trump has said people "have to get their shots" in an apparent attempt to encourage vaccinations in the face of a measles outbreak sweeping parts of the US. In the past, the president has repeatedly linked vaccinations to autism.
"The vaccinations are so important. This is really going around now," he told reporters outside the White House. "They have to get their shots."
The president was speaking in the wake of a troubling resurgence in the spread of the disease, which was once eradicated. The number of measles cases in the US is now at the highest level since 2000.
Some 700 cases have been reported this year, and the spread has been largely attributed to misinformation that is turning parents against vaccines.
The warning comes despite the fact that Mr Trump has repeatedly attempted to link vaccinations and autism, flying in the face of scientific evidence.

https://childrenshealthdefense.org/news ... lth-forum/HARLEM VACCINE FORUM
Saturday, October 19th, 1:00- 3:30 p.m.
Assembly Hall at Riverside Church
91 Claremont Avenue, New York, NY
The Harlem Vaccine Forum is still on! Assembly Hall at Riverside Church is a lovely venue and convenient to public transportation. CHD is delighted to host this event!
Compulsory vaccination raises critical human rights issues, including the right to practice religion freely, parental rights, informed consent, the right to education and the right to health. The forum provides a way to discuss these pressing issues and New York State’s decision to repeal the religious exemption to vaccination.
Big Pharma is one of the largest supporters of mainstream media so we weren’t totally surprised Tuesday when they squashed the National Action Network event that didn’t support their agenda. But CHD will not be censored. We aren’t beholden to pharma or the media. CHD chose to move forward with the Forum because pharma corruption, perversion of government vaccine data and known vaccine injury risks to our children, especially African Americans, are too great to ignore.CHD won’t be silenced on the lack of vaccine safety. Forcing us to change the venue made the event all the more important, to show the national media that will be there that this is a human rights issue and one on which people will vote, change their state of residence, and fight for until they win.“It is a grave warning sign for American democracy that the pharmaceutical industry is now so powerful that it can silence debate, even in the traditional heart of civil rights activism.” —Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Don’t miss this event as speakers discuss the pressing issues around vaccines and New York State’s unjustifiable decisions to repeal religious exemptions and to grossly curtail medical exemptions.
Speakers include: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.; Sheila Ealey; John Gilmore; Dr. Phil Valentine; Curtis Cost; Dr. Lawrence Palevsky; Reverend Walter Sotelo; Mary Holland; and many more.

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/health/ ... 75856.htmlMeasles virus 'wipes out immunity to other infections', scientists say
Measles can cause long-term damage to the immune system - resetting it to a baby-like state and leaving people vulnerable to other infections, scientists have said.
According to new research, the measles virus deletes part of the immune system's memory, removing previous immunity to other infections in both humans and ferrets.
Scientists have dubbed the startling findings "immune amnesia."
While the body is capable of rebuilding those defences, scientists say the process could take years.
With measles on the rise in the UK and in other countries across the world, Dr Michael Mina of Harvard's school of public health said "it should be a scary phenomenon".
Research from the Wellcome Sanger Institute, University of Amsterdam and their collaborators showed that the disease resets the human immune system to an immature state with only limited ability to respond to new infections.
Published in the journal Science Immunology, the study explains why children often catch other infectious diseases after measles.
The Harvard team analysed blood samples taken from 77 children before and after a measles outbreak in an unvaccinated community in the Netherlands.
They looked for antibodies, which remember viruses and bacteria they encounter to guard against a repeat infection.
After recovering from measles, the youngsters were left with plenty of antibodies against that virus - but ones they'd previously harboured against other germs had plummeted.
New tools, new results. :|

https://www.dw.com/en/philippines-strug ... a-51084152Philippines struggling to cope with back-to-back disease outbreaks
Years of plummeting immunization rates, compounded by a vaccine scare and an insufficient healthcare infrastructure, are causing a public health crisis in the Philippines. Ana P. Santos reports from Manila.
The Philippines is grappling with a public health crisis as back-to-back disease outbreaks of measles, dengue and polio have gripped the country since the start of the year.
There have been more than 42,000 reported cases of measles and 560 deaths since the Department of Health (DOH) declared a measles outbreak in February last year. However, reports from the last month show the number of measles cases and their fatality rate are falling.
In August, the DOH declared a dengue epidemic. Since then, over 350,000 cases of dengue and more than 1,300 related deaths have been reported. It is the worst dengue epidemic the country has seen in a decade.
The following month, the DOH confirmed the re-emergence of polio 19 years after its eradication. A third case of polio was confirmed this week. The health department has launched campaigns to bolster polio immunization, including a move to inoculate millions of children under the age of five in several parts of the country.
