First of all, congrats to the publicist hired to promote this movie. You have done an admirable job.

Image

The trailers are all tantalizing. Critics are expressing 'fears' about what this movie will do when released.

I might even go to the fucking theater to watch it, and I haven't been to a theater in more than a decade. That's how good a job they've done.

I'm waiting for Nyarl's take though. That is the real litmus test of a decent show.

Oh yes, the incel terrorist alt-right movie.

The Joker is really a typical Trump supporter, even though Gotham City is eternally New York City in an alternate universe where the fiscal crisis of the 1970s went the other way.

But the one true Joker is still Cesar Romero, though Jack Nicholson did a good job with the character.

Jack was good but utterly dwarfed by Heath Ledger's interpretation.

For those of us of a certain age, Cesar Romero is the One True Joker.

Heath was good. He realized how good and knew he would never attain that quality in his acting again so he became despondent and killed himself with drugs.

True story. The Olsen Twins covered it up.

Opened yesterday. IMDB ranks it at 9.1 from 200k voters.

Rotten Tomatoes proves, once again, that professional critics are pompously clueless.

Typical:
asshat bloviating critic wrote:---splat---All the worst inflections of comic book origin fetish, dangerously misunderstanding complex themes from Scorsese's films, and glibly piggybacking on zeitgeisty social issues.
I don't want to turn this into a thread on stupid pompous critics but this specific asshat hated The Last Jedi, The Big Short, and The Shawshank Redemption, among other 8 and 9 star flicks.

I'm not saying he should be horsewhipped, bitchslapped, or keelhauled, but there should be some retribution, like being forced to watch Battlefield Earth all day and night for a week straight.

It's just a show and they really should relax.

I suggest a theater showing films he considers worthy of his august approval with an audience of teen girls chatting texting and popping gum. The last at a volume and frequency to resemble frying bacon.

A for real alt-right type (who actually saw the movie) reviews it.

Historical note:
The Batman series of the 1960s was set in "the present".
They even had an episode with scenes filmed on location at the World's Fair. I'm vaguely recalling this may have been the premier.

This was before the NYC fiscal crisis. "Linseed" was mayor. Gotham City was Fun City.

Right wing (or at any rate non-leftist) pundits have a lot to say about this movie.

Sargon has no less than five videos on the subject. Didn't watch them all, not posting any here.

Here's one from PJ Watson which is not too long and bearable to watch (he did two).
A good representative of the genre.

OK. One last review of The Joker because this one in genuinely intelligent.

Film Review: The Joker
Anatoly Karlin
The Joker seems to be all things to all people. Tyler Cowen believes it is “the most anti-Leftist movie I have seen, ever.” The Leninist Komsomol of Sverdlov oblast (LOL) hailed it as a masterpiece showcasing the “problems of a capitalist society.” It upset the more genteel Alt Right boomers such as Trevor Lynch, who called it a “boring movie about a disgusting loser”, while The Daily Stormer gave it 10/10 and praised its justification of violence “as an appropriate response of abused white men to what society has done to them.” The New York Times was enraged it didn’t signal hard enough against problematic whiteness, highlighting trivial issues like mental illness and class war instead.

This because The Joker is an unreliable narrator. That is the single most important observation about the film – the main character’s mental problems means we can’t know which of the scenes are real, and which are hallucinations or flights of fancy. The only thing we really know for sure is there is a mentally disturbed incel called Arthur Fleck who lives in a shitty apartment with his no less crazed mother, scraping by and trying to ends meet as best he can with his limited abilities in a metropolis that seems to be going down the dumps. He has a severe case of jungle fever for a neighboring single mother, whom he imagines going out with, only to be told to leave the one time he finds himself in her apartment. This narrative device leaves the audience free to interpret the film anyway they like.

Latest right wing conspiracy hypothesis, sighted various places:

The LIBBERUL media have wised up to how much people hate them, so when they really want promote something they denounce it.
What with Time Warner owning both CNN and Warner Brothers, etc.
So that the "politically correct" denunciations are really just part of an overall publicity campaign.
And of course it sucks in the suckers on "both" sides.

Hated it. I would rather have been punched in the throat with a badger while getting audited by the IRS while on fire.

I wish someone would have opened fire during the movie. It would have relieved the boredom
