Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

It must be appreciated that running a train with two locos was a feat of great skill for the train crews. It involved precise synchronization to avoid pulling apart.

Not like now, when multiple smaller locos is routine in long haul freight service, all of them in sync driven by the engineer up front. The only exception to this is a very long train on tricky terrain might have another locomotive and crew at the back end. This is a situation where precisely in sync wont work due to the slack in the train, and again requires great skill.

Notably, the rest of the model is even more impressive than the model railroad (which is still damn impressive).

He’s one of the best-selling artists of all time, but it turns out that Rod Stewart has something more than just a passion for music, recently showcasing a massive model train city he’s spent 23 years building
What’s the first thing you think of when someone says the name Rod Stewart? Personally, I think of my mother’s collection of his records, with that raspy voice belting out ‘Maggie May’ or ‘Sailing’ with every spin.

However, if there’s one thing that his fans rarely associate with the music icon, it’s a love of model trains.

Yes, as the BBC reports, Rod Stewart recently took part in an interview with Railway Modeller magazine to show off a massive railway city inspired by ’40s-era New York and Chicago that he’s been working on for more than 23 years.

With bridges, buildings, houses, tracks, and more detail than an English teacher could ever request, it’s one of the most impressive things that Stewart has ever put his name to.

“I would say 90% of it I built myself,” the singer explained in an interview with BBC Radio 2. “The only thing I wasn’t very good at and still am not is the electricals, so I had someone else do that.”

BTW, since you and I are about the same age, what are your top ten tips for growing old and decrepit with style?

I'll start:

#1 Wear clothing completely unbecoming some one of my age.

#2 Lust unrequited after redheaded women young enough to be my granddaughters.

More to come. After I've had my nap.

I don't see much style in old farts shuffling along in hoodies, "sports" sneakers and baseball caps (the young'ones are allowed the dumbth of their age) – so I hope it's not what you mean?

Anyway, obligate railroad ornament:

Damn. If only I was 20 something again!

Never liked hoodies and only do baseball caps if it's raining. But I tend to dress a lot younger than I am and I expect I'm being foolish in this. But what the hell, I'm not long for this world and why not be comfy?

But only with present-day knowledge – I'd hate to have to go through all the old moves again!
