Things you'd like to do before you die

Post by ed »

Not necessarily biggies. Not necessarily things that are blue sky.

-I'd like to perform surgery on a human. Did plenty of critters back in the day but I'd like to do an appendectomy or something not terribly complicated. Maybe after the Big One (defined as you will) my modest talents will be exploited.

-I'd like to handle the Beowulf manuscript in the BM library. 10 minutes would do it. Maybe after the Big One (defined as you will)

-I'd like to shoot a machine gun. Never did it. A minigun actually. Maybe after the Big One (defined as you will). 5 or ten seconds would be fine.

-I'd like to start another company.

I see a pattern. Then again, most out of the box activities would require a shift in the social order I think.

I'd like to finally cycle down to East Anglia to see De_Bunk, (about 250 miles). I've been planning this for years and it's easily do-able but the opportunity has never arisen.

Get a set of dentures; it'd be nice to have a decent set of teeth for the first time in my life.

Paint a watercolour that I'm completely satisfied with, (sod whatever any other bugger thinks.)

Finish my loft conversion and build my dream train set.

Finally get back down to my ideal weight. I keep coming to within 10 lbs of it and then screwing up.

Quit drinking once and for all without going through disastrous, painful relapses.

Those seem pretty attainable.

AC. Giving up drinking was living hell for me for about 3 years. Now all is copacetic.
Your wife can be your Higher Power. :)

Moi -- Don't like the whole "bucket list" concept. I find it morbid.
Put me on the spot? A whole lot more of what I already like. 8)
AA, high powers, twelve fucking stupid steps, CBT support groups; I've tried the fucking lot and nothing works for me but taking Antabuse/Disulfiram, which means I can't drink at all, (assuming I take it, obviously.)

Anyway, I just thought of another. To be able to play Gershwyn's Rhapsody in Blue in its entirety on the chromatic harmonica. Now that's fucking hard, although I'm working on it!

Read '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea' in the original French. Play 'Pavane For A Dead Princess' on piano really well.

Discover a cure for 'Robinson's disease'. :)

The first two are possibilities, sparks.

Forget the third. :D

On YouTube please. 8)
Maybe later, when I'm half-way there! Tricky bit is, I've no orchestra to play with, so I'm having to compose my own version, featuring all the main themes.

I'd like to cook with Ramsey and show him how it's done.

And tell him to fuck off a lot in the process.

I'd like to have a long chat with Elizabeth. I'd like to hear her reminiscences about all she has seen and the people she has known.

I'd like to get rid of things I've accumulated over the years. I really do not need to keep a set of Xerox Ventura Publisher 5.25" installation disks.

Throw away 1 or 2 things like everyday Pyrrho and you'll soon be free of the clutter.

I did just that for a full year. It did not work. Clutter procreates to fill the available space.
