Maybe you can help. This ancient kraut uses the word "system" when referring to weapons as in the above example. Wouldn't a reasonable translation be
These pistols have the well-known double bolt barrel lock of hunting rifles. The barrel release/locking lever is on the tang (the weapon's tail piece).

Actually the phrase "the weapon's tail piece" does not really clarify at all since a tang is a tang and everyone knows it. At least everyone likely to be reading this turgid mass of offal.

Guess the question is the use of the word "system". I don't think that the context supports the meaning of the word "system" as we use it in english. Yet it does not mean "system" in the sense of a "weapons system" i.e. a set of parts that can be used in different configurations.

Is my question clear? I am only serving to confuse myself.

Question unclear, and certainly subject far from my expertise.

Scheibe generally means disk. If it's a "tang" in weapons, so be it.

System could have two meanings:
  • as you suggested, part of something that can be assembled or modified;
  • a technical invention/design, perhaps a patent.
Hope that helps.
